The NSW Branch has a standard flag-ship of core events every year including Australia Day, Queen’s Birthday and Remembrance Day church service and luncheons. At these a Vice Regal representative attends or an alternative prominent guest speaker. The British Consul-General and his wife host a Christmas party at their residence every year. In addition, lunches aboard the Navy sailing ship Young Endeavour, and Last Night of the Proms concerts are regular items on the programme. The Southern Highlands group holds three to four varying functions a year at Bowral or Mittagong and includes musical and drama plays, receptions at the Bradman museum and visits to local properties and musical centres.
Details of the events are set out in full in the Newsletters and flyers. Our aim is to price them at almost cost and rely upon raffle sales to generate surplus monies to fund our grants programmes. Events are held at various interesting Sydney locations including major clubs, Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron, Sydney University, St. James’ Church King Street, Naval dockyards, and the NSW Parliamentary dining rooms.
Kindred groups with similar aims as the Society (detailed in the annual report) are invited to join in these events to provide lower costs, fund entertainment, interesting guest speakers and attractive raffle prizes.
